Stilwell Case Study

We are very pleased that we have now been working with the Stilwell Partnership for over ten years. This leading civil engineering company deals with traffic and road safety as well as drainage and flood risk. It will be appreciated that as these issues are of great concern in today’s Britain, the Stilwell Partnership is a very busy organisation. Too busy to undertake all its training in-house. However not too busy to ensure that its in-house training is effectively supplemented and co-ordinated by Neighbour Training.

Why Neighbour Training?

MD and founding partner Nick Stilwell is the Highways Advisor to AIRSO and a Member of the Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety (PACTS). He is a Safety Auditor and reviewer for the IHIE for Chartered Engineer candidates. He told me that they give a very high priority to being good employers. They voluntarily ensured that their drivers were trained to advanced driver level long before this became advisable, to address the Occupational Road Risk and Corporate Manslaughter legislation, but, as with all business, clients must take priority.

Apprenticeship Experiences

James Bailey first undertook an Advanced Apprenticeship in Business Administration. After that there has been no stopping him. He completed an Autocad training course which led to an ONC in Civil Engineering which led to an HNC and he has now embarked on an MSc in Transportation. Nick Stilwell is very pleased with James’ achievements. Another member of staff, Kirsty Power, has successfully completed an Advanced Apprenticeship at level 3 in Business Administration and is now studying for a BTEC National Certificate in Civil Engineering. “It really helps us to have trained managers”, commented Nick. The Stilwell Partnership believe in trained and qualified staff. They have recruited Lyn Morris, an award winning Road Safety Officer to help clients, such as Hart District Council with road safety and are now offering seminars in Road Safety. “This is why Neighbour Training is so useful to us”, commented Nick ; “They ensure our staff have the opportunity to progress beyond mundane roles and fulfill their potential”. He continued that he found our structured training meant that the courses were more effective and the regular monthly visits by our assessors instilled good learning discipline. Since 1996 when we first became involved with Nick and the Stilwell Partnership we have helped fourteen learners gain qualifications.
