How Apprenticeships Work
How It All Works!
Our Apprenticeships are work-based learning packages designed for individual learners based on the work they are doing. They comprise the QCF, Key or Functional Skills and a Technical Certificate. The QCF is portfolio based (we are very keen to reduce the amount of paper involved and actively promote the use of latest technology encouraging our learners to retain all evidence on USB pen drives which we provide.)
-
Each QCF is made up of several work related units, typically 2 to 4 mandatory units and between 3 & 6 optional units depending on the programme being delivered. Each unit is given a credit score. To achieve a Level 2 qualification in Business Administration, for example, a minimum of 34 credits must be completed. 9 credits from the mandatory group A and the rest from optional units in groups B & C, together with a Certificate of Principles of Business and Administration
-
Our assessor visits once a month and works with the Learner on their job to identify evidence which has been produced that can be used in their portfolio. During each month the Learner will be given time to complete a work related task that demonstrates their capability.Technical Certificates are vocational qualifications identified by the sector and relevant awarding bodies. Technical Certificates deliver the underpinning knowledge and understanding relevant to the QCF and are a structured approach to teaching and assessment.
-
Key or Functional Skills are either at level 1 or 2 and in many cases the learner is exempt from these skills if they have a reasonable GCSE grade in English and Maths. Evidence for these skills is easily identified in daily working practice and is generally not difficult to achieve.
Our aim is to lead you through the learning process as quickly and enjoyably as possible.
At our initial meeting we will explain:
-
The benefits of training and the qualifications.
-
Roles and responsibilities of the Learner, Employer and Neighbour Training.
-
How the learning is funded.
-
The reasons for an initial assessment and how we use it in the Individual Learning Plan.
-
What support is available and all relevant contact numbers.
-
In the first two months we will ask you to complete a questionnaire to let us know how well we explained the above.
Throughout the programme and at a Mid-Term point we will:
-
Continually update you on progress against learning and targets
-
Review the appropriateness of the learning delivery
-
Provide any additional support where required.
-
Ask you to complete a questionnaire on the programme so far.
At the Final Stage we will:
-
Discuss the next steps including opportunity for progression.
-
Reflect on the benefits of the Apprenticeship programme.
-
Ask you to complete an exit questionnaire on the Apprenticeship programme to give us feedback on how satisfied you were with our delivery of your training programme.
